2016 Themes

After many suggestions, much deliberation, and some flat-out cracking ourselves up, we've created the list of our Themes for 2016! As always, feel free to adhere to them as strictly or as loosely as you like; some of the best stories we've ever run happen when people get real creative with their interpretations. We'll decide specific dates closer to the start of the new year, but if you like thinking ahead, here are the types of things you'll need to be thinking.

February: Some Assembly Required
Think handmade, homemade, fan-made, crowd-sourced, scavenged, salvaged -- or just take it home and follow instructions!

March (F/F Special): Walk on the Wild Side
Danger and excitement lurk around every corner! Step out of the ordinary and get your heart pumping!

April: Anyway, Here's Wonderwall
Anyway, here's Wonderwall.

June: Something Old, Something New
It's a nice day for a white rainbow wedding.

July (Yes, And Special): Shaken, Not Stirred
Spies like us (and we like spies)! Secret agents, mysterious informants, international intrigue, and delicious cocktails are all on the menu.

August: Hail to the Chief
Grab your election gear and head out on the campaign trail for politics as (un)usual!

September (Artist Special): Lost and Found
If you love something, set it free. If it comes back -- or even if it doesn't -- tell the tale here.

October: Into the Woods
Whether you prefer camping or camp, our traditionally spooky October special is the place to pitch your tent.

December: Theme-Free Big Bang
And our last issue of the year gives a big blank slate: no theme, no word count upper bound, just you and whatever you want to make of it!

We've got a couple of cover slots open, so if you're interested, drop us an email at shousetsubangbang@gmail! Preference will be given to artists who a) have actively contributed to SSBB in recent memory, b) can do a full-color finished piece, and c) haven't done a cover in the last two years, if at all. We're hoping to get all those assigned ASAP, so don't delay! All scheduled! It's going to be a great lineup!
